Introducing HOBART's new Quality, Health and Safety Manager

Matt Knowles, QH&S Manager - HOBART UK

“I am a strong believer in getting people engaged with the subject of Health and Safety because they want to, not because they have to.” Matt Knowles.

A huge factor in HOBART’s success over the past 60 years has been the dedicated workforce, driving the company forward.

Our new Quality, Health and Safety (QH&S) Manager, Matt Knowles is the prime example of a dedicated and passionate member of the HOBART team.

Matt started with HOBART Service in 1999 as a Service Technician, before working his way up to Regional Operations Manager in 2010 and finally QH&S Manager in March this year.

Matt describes his 20-year career with HOBART as ‘an education’ and believes his can-do attitude and passion for the company has been a major attribute to his success. “I have achieved a level of success I could not have expected when I joined in 1999, however the company has presented me with opportunity and I am always grateful for that. Having said that, I think everything that I have achieved has been because of my attitude and I have this because I care very deeply about the company I work for.”

Now Matt is stepping into the role of Quality, Health and Safety Manager for HOBART UK with the intention of making a difference. “I stepped in to support the role at the beginning of the year and quickly determined that this was something I felt I wanted to make a difference in.

“I am a strong believer in getting people engaged with the subject of Health and Safety because they want to, not because they have to. This for me creates an environment of confidence to speak up and ensure we do the right thing to look after everyone regardless of their role within the business.”

Matt’s three main responsibilities as QH&S Manager are: Health and Safety, Quality Management (including maintaining HOBART’s ISO Standard) and GDPR.

Matt believes his experience at HOBART Service and understanding of the field-based Service Technician roles and office-based roles stand him in good stead for the role:

“I have always believed that our biggest risk for accidents exists with our field-based colleagues and this is an area I very much understand. Additionally, working from management of a team and working from Head Office in Peterborough has made me conscious and capable of engaging with all colleagues throughout the business and looking for ways to support them.”
