Lynn Donnachie is the latest HOBART Service Technician to be awarded the Gas Safe qualification
At HOBART Service, staff training is fundamental to our success. Our team of over 100 Service Technicians are the best in the industry, our 94% First Time Fix rate would not be possible without the learning courses our Techs undertake every year.
Over 90% of our Service Technicians are fully Gas Safe registered, with the remainder currently undertaking training.
Mark Whitmarsh, Technical Operations Manager for HOBART Service, explains the importance in depth training has on our customer’s experience, "Regular product and technical training not only ensures we maximise our HOBART Service Technicians' development and learning potential, but improves our efficiency and First Time Fix rate, which enhances our overall customer satisfaction."
Lynn Donnachie is our latest Service Technician to become a Gas Safe registered engineer, “I started my Managed Learning Programme (MLP) training some time ago late 2019 but, due to the pandemic it was paused for some time. The MLP is a course designed to take someone with no knowledge of gas and give them the practical and theoretical knowledge and understanding to gain a competency in Commercial Catering gas work.”
Once Lynn had completed her MLP training, she was able to take ACS exam – an industry-recognised certification of competence needed to become a member of the Gas Safe Register.
Being Gas Safe registered increases Lynn’s skillset, “After passing this course, I now have the ability to attend breakdown and preventative maintenance calls on gas equipment. This will mean a quicker response for customer as there is now another Technician that can attend – it also takes a bit of weight off the other Technicians.”
Lynn loves the challenge of being a Service Technician and facing problems head-on, “I enjoy job satisfaction from being able to get a machine working for the customer - especially when it is a complex repair - you feel like you have just made their day. Every day there is something new and my technical knowledge is increasing all the time.”
In addition to her Gas Safe accreditation, Lynn has undergone a wide range of training – from product to health and safety, “Whilst working for HOBART Service, I have attended training in warewash and cooking equipment, including multiple training opportunities on new equipment such as flight dishwashers and twin-level hoods. This essential product training is alongside safety training, such as the Commercial Catering Equipment Electrical Competence course I passed in March 2021.”
Lynn enjoys being female in a largely male-dominated industry but hopes more females will put themselves forward, “It can be quite interesting at times! In this day and age I'm still surprised that there are so few of us, I often get a double take at some sites. I have always found it a positive talking point with customers who think it is great to see a female technician. Anything I can do to be a positive influence on females to enter the industry is welcomed.”
